THE ACADEMY PROGRAMS
Since 1989, MBT has served Maryland’s Montgomery County region with exceptional dance education, community outreach, and inspiring performances. MBT’s Academy offers classes in Creative Movement, Early Ballet, Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Modern, and more, for ages 3 through adult. In addition, MBT offers classes for beginners, a track for pre-professional ballet students, and several performing opportunities for all students.
MBT’s dance studios are located near I-270 in Gaithersburg, MD, and Clarksburg, MD, easily accessible to students from Rockville, Germantown, Olney, Frederick, Washington D.C., and other nearby communities throughout the region. In addition, MBT performs two major ballets annually at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville, MD, and a Scholarship Gala in the spring.
The Youth Ballet Program offers dancers ages 7 and up the ability to train in a disciplined classical ballet setting with a schedule that offers flexibility for students who wish to attend as few as one class per week.
Short Session Program
Designed for dancers who are new to the arts or unable to commit to the full-year schedule. The program provides four short 8-week sessions for children ages 2 - 10 years old. A variety of short-session classes are offered, including grown-up & me, creative dance, and introductory dance classes. Our short session classes are held at the Clarksburg studio.
Academic & Pre-Professional Program
For the serious young dancer, Academic Ballet offers training in ballet technique starting at age 7, and continuing through high school, with a pre-professional dance curriculum for those students who may be interested in pursuing a career in dance. Emphasis is placed on learning classical ballet techniques while building strength and flexibility, confidence, musicality, and artistry.
Jazz & Tap Program
The jazz class focuses on learning proper dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality, and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street, Funk, and Tap to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Tap classes are primarily held at our Clarksburg Studios.
The modern classes consist of studies to stretch and strengthen different areas of the body. Modern dance movements are considered freeform and fluid and are often inspired by other dance styles. Modern is offered to students who have previous dance training in ballet and jazz.
Hip Hop Program
The Hip hop class is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Hip Hop is a movement that represents the freedom to learn, grow, and evolve.
