Carrie Cornelius

Carrie Cornelius is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and began studying ballet seriously in high school, although she has been dancing since she was two and a half. Carrie trained and performed with the City Ballet of Cleveland under Courtney Laves-Mearini. She attended summer intensives at Ballet Met, Ballet West, Oklahoma City Ballet, and Ballet Austin. After high school she attended the University of Utah, where she graduated with a BFA in Ballet and a minor in Nutrition. Carrie joined Ballet Theatre of Maryland as a trainee in 2018 and worked her way up to Demi-Soloist. She had the opportunity to perform corps de ballet and Demi-Soloist roles in many ballets including The Nutcracker, Giselle, Swan Lake, Coppélia, and Don Quixote. She retired in 2023 after five fulfilling seasons.

This is Carrie's third season teaching at MBT, and she has found her passion working with adult students of all ages and experience levels. In addition to being on faculty, Carrie serves as MBT's Artistic Coordinator, helping to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. She also manages MBT's Adult Program, creating exciting classes, workshops, and opportunities for adult dancers to learn, grow, and connect.
