Spring Dance Concert

spring

Each spring, Metropolitan Ballet Theatre presents a different classical ballet or mixed repertory production to the community. Founder Suzanne Erlon has choreographed dozens of enchanting ballets, including fairy tales such as Cinderella, ballet classics like Coppelia, short stories like Peter and the Wolf, and other delightful originals using the music of the famous classical composers.

Local choreographers also get the chance to have their works debuted in a professional setting by MBT dancers. Vanessa Carmichael-Elder (from Teatro De Danza Contemporanea), Nicole Y.M. McBrayer (from Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance) and Derrick Spear (from Washington Reflections Dance Company) have all choreographed works for MBT over the past few years. These choreographers bring different dance styles to MBT, challenging the dancers to move beyond what is normally taught in class and wowing audiences with their diversity, innovation and creativity.

This Spring MBT presents the ballet Hansel & Gretel.  MBT’s premiere production recounts the classic fairy tale with a twist.  The ballet will follow two young children lost in the forest who come upon a gingerbread house filled with sweets and surprises.
